Home and Garden, Self-Help

This is an independant review of the Woodworking 4 Home product – you can get it here.

Have you ever attempted a woodworking project before, but found that you didn’t have quite everything figured out? I have – my girlfriend wanted a coffee table so I volunteered to make one. Sounds simple enough, right?

Once I started, however, I found there was a lot more to it than I’d suspected. I thought I’d prepared myself enough, I was sure I knew what I was doing, but then the simplest things – like how to attach the legs to the table – had me stumped. Maybe you’ve had the same problem? Well, I reverted to my failsafe answer for anything – I went online, which is where I found woodworking4home.com. You might have tried to find similar products but been confused by guides that leave out important steps and feature diagrams that are too complicated, or have instructions that are unclear and give the wrong dimensions. Their authors often assume knowledge that the average Joe just does not have.

They have probably forgotten what it was like when they themselves started out. You won’t find that this time. The author understands how frustrating it can be starting a project, only to see it fail and not know where you went wrong! He has laid out simple, easy to read instructions, suitable for the beginner and expert alike. This was exactly what I was looking for – something that was easy to understand and follow.

Every set of plans contains the correct dimensions, a complete list of materials and tools needed, and detailed diagrams of the process you need to follow to build a successful project. They leave nothing to the imagination, so you can rest assured, you will not go wrong. The guide contains around 14000 sets of plans and even includes ideas on where to find affordable timber and tools, saving you from unreasonable DIY store prices. It includes streaming video tutorials, and is easily stored on a PC or disk.

Searching for plans is easy, although it can be difficult finding the exact plan you’re looking for when you take into account the sheer size of the guide. I had been dreading riffling through a textbook or magazine looking for what I needed, and I think anyone who has done so would agree – this is still the easier, better option. Plans can be searched for by keyword, and come in varying degrees of complexity, from beginner projects through to more advanced woodworking projects. I actually found that after I’d finished the table – which I completed without a hitch using the guide, by the way – I started working on other projects simply because woodworking4home makes it fun!

In my opinion, you are unlikely to find anything else like this on the web today, and certainly not in this price range. My $49.00 was well spent.

John Metz, the author, has compiled this book himself over a period of more than twenty years. He remembers how hard it was for him starting out, which is why he put this straightforward guide together, to help others who now find themselves in the position he was in. He swears by it and after working through some of the projects in the guide, so do I. He even offers a sixty day 100% money back guarantee – every cent returned to you if you aren’t completely satisfied with the product, although I can almost guarantee that you won’t find another product of this quality with the same assurance and that will give you the same value for money. In my opinion, this guide is well worth the price.
